IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gladys Bollenbach
Scott
November 19, 1924 – January 4, 2018
Gladys ("Aunt G" and "GG") Bollenbach Scott, age 93, of Atlanta, Georgia was born in Elizabeth City County (Hampton), Virginia on November 19, 1924 and lived in Hampton the majority of her life. She went peacefully to be with her Lord on January 4, 2018.
Gladys was a beloved widowed wife of 50yrs, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who worked hard to care for those she loved.
She was an exceptionally talented singer who sang in choirs and groups for the majority of her life. She began singing on Langley Field where she and her sisters would sing in multiple, various services as well as USO performances. She would later serve as a longstanding member of both her church's choir and the Hearthrobs, a senior citizen's group.
Gladys lived a rich life were she resided in multiple cities with her military family. She spent her early years residing on Langley Field, where she was later honored as an early member of the original "Army Brats" stationed at Langley Field. She moved with family to Panama City, Panama and to Tampa, Florida, where she met the 'Love of her Life', John E. Scott. Gladys and her husband lived for a short time in Idaho, Tampa FL, and returned post WWII, Korean War to settle in the Hampton Roads and Gloucester VA areas. Only her last few remaining years were spent living in the Atlanta GA area with family there.
She was a longstanding member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton. Her unwavering faith shaped her existence as somebody who left a lasting mark on all who knew her. The hardest thing to put into words was her welcoming nature. She loved all and was a friend to everyone; always keeping an open door policy.
Gladys was preceded in death by husband, John Edward Scott of Tampa FL, her mother Vivien Mitchell Bollenbach, father Sgt./M John Philip Bollenbach, and her eldest sister Phyllis Olivia Scoggin of Hampton VA. She is survived by her dearest friend, her twin sister, Margaret Boyd, two daughters and their spouses, Judy Martin, Ronnie "Dale" Martin Sr. and Vivien Welsch, Dennis Welsch and a well-loved, unofficially adopted daughter Jamie Hubbard. Additionally, she is survived by five grandchildren and their spouses/partners, Diana Martin-Witcher, Jason Witcher, Robert Leigh, Fawn Leigh, Ronald Dale Martin Jr., Melissa Kennedy, John Martin, Meredith Martin, Charles "Drew" Martin, Sharon Martin, and eight great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Leigh, Isabelle Leigh, Olivia Witcher, Violet Witcher, Evangeline Martin, Veronica Martin, Abigail Martin, Claire Martin, several nieces, a nephew and countless friends and additional extended family.
The family will receive friends on Jan 12th, 2018, beginning in the afternoon at 12:00 PM with a celebration of life service starting at 1:00 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Ave. Hampton, VA 23669. Immediately following, she will be laid to rest with her husband John in the Phoebus Section of Hampton National Cemetery.
One of Gladys's greatest wishes was for everyone to know the Lord Jesus Christ.
" John 14:1-614 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[ a ] ; believe also in me. 2 My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
In lieu of flowers, contributions can also be made to – Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. A memorial page for Gladys B. Scott is being established.
