Gladys Jane Pendergraft, 72, died Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Born in Massachusetts, she had been a Hampton resident since 1969 where she had owned Knitting Machines by Jane. She worked at BB&T for 25 years, retiring in 2015 after 25 years. She a quilting and sewing fanatic.

Preceded in death by her parents, Gladys Jane and Reuben Stanford Bassett, a sister, Gail Carnovale, and a brother, Stanford Marc Bassett; survivors include her husband of 51 years, Richard Pendergraft; four children, Corinne Pollard, Stephanie Pendergraft, Adrian Pendergraft, and Bithiah Johnson; her sister, Rosalind Hennessey; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Chris, Britney, Morgan, JD, Marley, Michaela, and Elizabeth; and four great-grandchildren, Jonah, Kataleyah, Aiden, and Brantley.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 13, 2018 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-6pm Thursday at the funeral home.
