Gladys Gray Swann Lockard, 87, was born in Rainswood in Northumberland VA on December 1, 1928. A resident of Hampton for the last 56 years, Gladys was married to Dale S. Lockard for 58 years before he passed away in 2006.  After 31 years of service with the telephone company, she retired in 1988 and stayed a lifelong member of the Pioneers of America.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Eugene and Grace Ann Swann; her sister, Frances Moore and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Leslie and his wife Virginia Swann, Louis Swann, Grayson Swann, Wallace Swann, Randolph and his wife Marie Swann.  Gladys is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Elaine Lockard of Newport News and her sisters-in-law, Margret Swann of Reedville, Joyce Headley of Rainswood and Thelma Swann of Hampton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at R. Hayden Smith Funeral home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, in Hampton on Wednesday between 6 and 7:30 PM. Interment and a short graveside ceremony will be held at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Northumberland on Thursday, April 21, 2016.
