IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine Anita
Samuel
July 15, 2017
Geraldine Anita Samuel, 84, of Yorktown, VA went home to be with her heavenly Father on July 15, 2017.
Geraldine was born in Reidsville, NC to Herbert & Lula Broadnax on August 6, 1932. Geraldine was one of five children, having three brothers and a sister.
Education was one of her top priorities. After graduating from high school in Reidsville, NC, she completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at her beloved Hampton Institute. As a Hampton scholar, she continued her studies, and obtained a Master's degree in Education.
On February 15, 1985, she married her friend and soulmate, LeRoy Samuel, in Reidsville, North Carolina. To this union, three beautiful children were born, Charles, Roger, and LaRai.
Because Leroy served on active duty in the US Air Force, Geraldine had the opportunity to work as a nurse at various military bases. She later worked as a Registered Nurse for York County Public Schools for 20 years.
Sister Samuel was a faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Hampton where she served with the Christian Fellowship Choir, the Poinsettia Project, Friday Lunch Bunch, and the H.E.L.P. Ministry.
In addition, Geraldine was a member of the Ladies of Hampton Alumni Association. Although she was active in her church and within the community, she always made her family and friends a priority. Preparing meals and making sure everyone felt special, was one of her many gifts. This was displayed by her implementing the "Golden Child of the Month Award for Academic Excellence" for her grandchildren. Geraldine was a woman of love, grace, and strength. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert & Lula Broadnax; two brothers, Herbert Broadnax, Jr. and Frederick Broadnax, and a sister, Loretta B. Lee.
Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing her husband, LeRoy; a brother Charles Edward Broadnax; two sons, Charles Eric and Roger Allen I; a daughter, LaRai Lynn; six grandchildren, Christina Marie, Roger Allen II, Imani Lee, Brooklyn Ashley, Shaila Lynn, and Ryan Patrick; seven great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, neighbors, and friends.
