Gerald (Gerry) Ehlers, 77, a loving husband, father and grandfather went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2023, surrounded by family in his home in Hampton, VA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Margaret Ehlers, his sister Barbara (Ehlers) Fenner, and widowed by his first wife Mary Ann Ehlers.

He is survived by his wife Joan Schmidt (Williams) Ehlers; his sons Ronald (Traci) and Peter (Abby) and his daughter Kathryn (Bill Ryan) as well as his step-son Richard Williams (Stephanie).  He is the loving grandfather to five grandchildren, Annaka, Armando, Fernando, Sophia (Williams) and James (Williams).

Gerry proudly served in the US Coast Guard, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in Portsmouth, VA. He then earned a BA at Old Dominion University and continued to serve the military with Veterans Affairs at Tidewater Community College.

The family will be forever grateful to his caregivers for their loyalty, and devotion in Gerry's care.

His memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Liberty Live Church in Hampton (1021 Big Bethel Rd, Hampton, VA  23666) on August 26, 2023 at 12:00pm. His family will receive guests at 11:00am prior to the service and a private burial will occur at Meadowbrook Memorial in Suffolk.
