Gerald H. Adams, 81, died unexpectedly on December 31, 2017. A faithful husband, father and friend, Gerald was a US Army veteran. He retired as a supervisor at Newport News Shipbuilding Dept X19 after 33 years and was an avid sportsman and gardener.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nell R. Adams; five stepchildren, Phyllis Grainger, Gloria Ceglarski, Melanie Taylor, Mark Taylor, Melissa Gaines; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Adams; mother, Euna Adams; and three sisters, Arleen Holley, Cecil Reynolds, Gracie Haynes.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 am, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Interment will take place in Hampton Memorial Gardens at 2:00 pm.
