George Fleming Black Jr, 79, of Hampton, went to be with His Lord and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son, Who is our only Hope, the Messiah, the Savior of the World, the Way, the Truth and the Life. He transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on January 14, 2022.

George served in the United States Army in Vietnam and then spent 27 years as a VA State Police Officer, retiring as a lieutenant in 1996. He was a 32nd and 33rd degree Mason. George loved his country, his family, his church, and the many organizations he served. The family extends utmost gratitude to the staff of Riverside Private Duty and Hospice for the ongoing care provided to George over the past four years.

George was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and George Fleming Black Sr. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jessie Kay Wallace Black; children, Margaret Jenkins (Ken), Denice Rhodes (Todd), George Black III (Heidi); sister, Elaine Franz (Robert); grandchildren, Crystal Meier (Jeff), Dustin Jenkins, Mckenzie and William Black; nephew, Ryan Franz (Kimberly); and great-grandchildren, Haley, Jacob and Hanna Meier.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00pm on Thursday, January 20th at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 21st at 11am at Fox Hill Central United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park
