Geneva Thore Spencer was called to her heavenly home on November 23, 2015. She was born in Mount Airy, NC on September 21, 1925 and was pre-deceased by her loving husband, Norman (Tony) Spencer foster son, Gary Crickenberger; and grandson, Dane Spencer Roberson. She spent most of her life serving God, her Church, family and community.
A graduate of Beaulah High School, Geneva was Valedictorian and class poet. She cared for foster children until a permanent home was found for them. After raising her two daughters, she graduated from Cosmetology School with honors and opened "Buck & Doe" beauty shop in Hampton, VA. Geneva was very involved in Buckroe Baptist Church and became one of the first women Deacons of the church. She loved to cook pies and cakes for everyone. She was a member of Swansboro First Baptist in Swansboro, NC.
Geneva is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Carolyn and Owen Roberson of Owings, MD and Katrina and Michael Lowdermilk of Hubert, NC; grandchildren, Dawn Blasey and her husband Rich of Lusby, MD; Christopher Roberson and his wife Uli of Reisterstown, MD; Kevin Lowdermilk of Treasure Island, FL; Kyle Lowdermilk and his wife Charlotte of Christiansburg, VA; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Emily and Nicholas Blasy; and Kaleb and Ethan Lowdermilk. Geneva will be missed by many.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Buckroe Baptist Church by Dr. Paul Lawson with interment to follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-5 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Swansboro First Baptist Church, 614 W. Corbett Avenue, Swansboro, NC 28584.
