Obituary

Gayle Newsome of Hampton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Born in Newport News (January 27, 1941), she remained a resident of Hampton for the duration of her life where she raised her three sons, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Gayle was an active member of the Bethel Temple Assembly of God and a former member of Buckroe Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Hampton High school.

Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Mason; husband, Curtis W. Newsome Sr.; sister, Sharon Toepper; and grandson, Ryan Wade Newsome.

She is survived by her sons: Curtis Jr. (Melinda), Bryan (Cathie), and Vaughn. She leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Courtney VanSciver (Chris), Lindsey Sampley (Robbie), Curtis W. III (Beth), Elizabeth Newsome (Tyler), and Chad Newsome. She will be missed most by 5 great- grandchildren, and her "little black dog" Pearl.

Gayle was a friend to all. She never met a stranger. She was an avid football fan wherever her son coached; she was the loudest supporter of all of her children's and grandchildren's activities. For Gayle, everyday was a "new day and a new way".   She loved her family and friends the most.

The family will receive friends for a visitation from 11:00- 12:00 on Friday, April 9, 2021 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. The service will begin at noon and may be watched live, please CLICK HERE. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
