Gary Wayne Phillips, 59, died unexpectedly at home Saturday, February 6, 2016. A lifelong Hampton resident, he graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1975.
Gary Wayne was a Lifetime Member of Local #79 Iron Workers. His occupation took him to many large building construction projects. He loved hunting and fishing with friends in Gloucester.
Preceded in death by his father, DeVaughan E. Phillips and his brother, DeVaughan "Vonie" E. Phillips, Jr.; survivors include his mother, Helen Phillips Spencer; a sister Susan Phillips Hamilton and her husband, Robert; an aunt, Glenda Beck; his sister-in-law Mary Phillips and several cousins; and his beloved dog, Jack.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 pm Thursday in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Wednesday in R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, downtown Hampton.
