Gary Charles Johnson, Jr., 27, died Sunday, June 13, 2021. Born in North Carolina, he was a longtime area resident and graduated from Smithfield High School. He furthered his education at the Culinary Institute of Virginia and was known as a wonderful chef. Through the years he had worked at Vancostas, The County Grill, Hoss's Deli, Captain Chuckamucks, the Stillwater Tavern, and Anna's Pizza. He also enjoyed video gaming.

Preceded in death by his sister, Wendy Kay Johnson, Gary is survived by his father, Gary C. Johnson; his mother, Charmaine Aikens and her boyfriend, Joe Noe; his maternal grandparents, Alma and Joe Bye; his paternal grandparents, Betty and Jesse Hodges; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 PM, Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 332 Ambler Ct., Hampton.
