Gary Boyce "Fish" Herring, Sr., 62, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021. He was a lifelong Newport News resident who had worked at the Newport News Shipyard since 1978, most recently working as a Quality Assurance Inspector in the Machine Shop. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed all watersports, especially boat racing. Gary enjoyed spending time at his summer place at the Indian Acres Club of Thornburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Dora Herring, son, Gary B. Herring, Jr., brother, William Earl Herring, fiancée, Deborah Mello, and his beloved dog, Princess. Survivors include daughter, Jessica L. Herring; sister, Sharon K. Warren and husband, Howard; brother, Dennis R. Herring and wife, Connie; and step-granddaughter, Hadley Noel Smith.

The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with a memorial service beginning at 5:00 PM. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family requests that memorials be made to an organization close to Gary's heart, the SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601.
