Frederick Walter McCulley passed away on February 2, 2018. He was born to Myrtle Stites McCulley and Walter P. McCulley Dec 13, 1922 in Bridgeton, NJ. When he was 7 years old, he fell in the snow and broke his leg, a Boy Scout found him and carried him all the way to the hospital. Fred later became a Life Scout in Troop 1 of Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1940, and then enlisted into the Army. He served as a technician within the 191st Quartermaster Gas Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre from 1943-1945. Following WWII, he returned to Bridgetown and married his high school sweetheart, Jean Larisa Mayhew on April 16, 1946. They had two children, Frederick B. McCulley and Beverly McCulley Silkey and he was a devoted husband and father. Fred worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company as a dedicated employee for 35 years. He always said that the telephone company was good to him and he always strived to get to work, even in bad snow storms. After retiring from Ma Bell, the McCulley family moved to Hampton in 1986 to be closer to their grandson and family. As the Manager of Armistead Animal Inn, Fred was just as dedicated to the welfare of the pets left in his care. He was always an animal lover and especially loved his cat, Zorro. After 22 years, he retired a second time. Also, while living in Hampton, he became an active member of the Hampton Kiwanis Club and enjoyed making new friends and taking part in various service projects.

Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years as well as his son. Survivors include his daughter, Beverly Silkey (Michael); grandson, Michael Silkey (Rae); and three great grandchildren, Mason, McKenna, and Logan. Fred's family is grateful for the love and care that he received while at Northampton Convalescent Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cat Corner or a charity of your choice.
