Frederick D. Keigley, 81, departed this world on July 6, 2014. Born August 20, 1932, he was the son of Dale and Thelma Keigley of Ashmore, Illinois and had been a Hampton resident since 1967. Preceded in death by his wife, Jeanine M. Keigley; he leaves the following relatives, his mother, Thelma Keigley of Charleston, IL; two sisters, Mrs. Truman Kerns of Kansas, IL and Naomi Butler of Charleston, IL. He served in the Army during the Korean War and later joined the US Navy serving in submarine service until his retirement in 1972. He was a life member of VFW and the DAV and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church in Hampton and a member of St. Tammany Lodge #5 AF&AM, Kecoughtan Royal Arch Masons #42, and Hampton Commandry #17, The Khedive Temple Shriners and Peninsula Shrine Club. Fred retired from Howmet in 1996 and then worked for a short time for United Insurance Company as a life and health agent. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Rev. Mark D. Boyd. Interment with full Navy honors by sailors from the Norfolk Naval Station will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 1-2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Association would be appreciated.
