IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Franklin D.
Westfall
July 18, 1933 – December 24, 2024
Franklin "Bob" Westfall, 91, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024. A native of Clendenin, WV, he has been a Hampton resident since 1974. He retired from the US Air Force in 1975 after 20 years of service, then went to work for the Hampton Sheriff's Department as a court bailiff for 20 years, and upon retiring from there, he went to work at Peebles Department store in their maintenance department. He was a very active member of The Church of the Nazarene.
Known as Grandpa Bob, or Mr. Bob, he never knew a stranger. He was a kind and generous man, who always had an infectious smile on his face. His home was always open to those who needed a family to lean on, especially for young service members who were alone so far from home. One of the greatest joys of his life was to help others by fixing anything that was broken, giving a warm hug and making everyone feel at home in his presence.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Beauty Westfall; Bob is survived by his three daughters, Cherry Faulkner, Janice Gustafson (Wade) and Sheila Slone (JC); a brother, Doug Westfall (Joy); seven grandchildren, Brian Faulkner (Betsy), Brett Faulkner (Amy), Rachel Gustafson (Scott Tinsley), Sarah Gustafson, (Aaron Policow), Jessica Gustafson (Sean Cleary), Morgan Ruhl (Aaron), and Molly Brunk (Gabe); and eleven great-grandchildren with another one the way, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11am Friday, January 3, 2025, at The Church of the Nazarene at 32 Tide Mill Lane, Hampton, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Newport News Church of the Nazarene, 29 Harpersville Road, Newport News, VA 23601.
