Florence June Riffer, 92, passed away August 21, 2017. She was an English war bride who became a much loved American mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

June Riffer was born in Shotley, England, the daughter of a career Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. After high school she went through nurses training and served in London at the height of the blitz. In 1944, she met Master Sargent Clarence Wallace Riffer who was serving with the US Eighth Air Force after having served with the Flying Tigers in China. They were married in 1945 and following the war moved with him back to the United States. June became a naturalized citizen in 1954. They served in many duty stations as her husband completed a 33 year career in the Air Force, before serving their final duty station at Langley Air Force Base in 1965.   After seeing her son and daughter off to college, June took a position as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Air Intelligence, Tactical Air Command at Langley and held this position for twenty years retiring in 1987. During this time, Wallace worked for NASA also at Langley. While living in Hampton, they were members of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and June sang in the choir and loved serving her church. June lost the love of her life when Wallace passed away in 1991, but she remained very active right up until her passing. June is survived by her son and daughter, William Riffer and Donna Evans, three grandsons, one step-grandson, and eight great grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for 2 PM on Saturday, August 26, 2017r at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hampton, VA
