IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn Smith
Lee
April 27, 1925 – September 14, 2016
Evelyn Smith Lee (91), went home with the angels on Wednesday morning September 14, 2016 where she was reunited with her husband, Walter and her mother, Maude who she looked for and missed dearly. Born in Roanoke Rapids, NC, she moved to Virginia with her family in the 1930's. Evelyn's love for her family and making special memories with her grandchildren, great-grandchild and Josh were the highlights of her life. She loved to bake for the family and she made sure some of her nephews were sent cakes for their birthday when they were away from home. Her homemade Pound Cakes and German Chocolate Cakes will be missed and no longer fought over. Evelyn worked at NACA and the Newport News Shipyard. As time passed, and it grew harder and harder for Evelyn and Walter to live on their own, they moved to The Masonic Home of Virginia where they lived until their passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Lee, Jr., daughter, Donna Rae, granddaughter, Katie Hobbs, her mother and father, Maude and Phillip Smith, sisters, Lucille Good, Hazel Holt, Mickie Todd, Edna Lishman, Joy Rodgers and brother, Phillip Smith, Jr.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Billy Hobbs, grandchildren, Nick and Gena Hobbs; great-grandchildren, Kylah, Riley, Brooks and Keiralise; her brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Nancy Smith, all of Hampton, and a special "son" Josh Faison, of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 24 at The Scottish Rite Masonic Center, 65 Saunders Road, Newport News with Pastor Larry P. Jones officiating. A reception will follow.
The family would like to express their grateful thanks to all those at The Masonic Home Memory Care Unit to include John Zacharias, Barbara Jehu and especially Wanda Kargbo and the nurses and staff who made Evelyn's life easier for her as she moved more and more into her own world.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Masonic Home of Virginia, Memory Care Unit in memory of Evelyn S. Lee, Monitor Lodge #197 at P. O. Box 7866, Henrico, VA 23231-0366.
