IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Evelyn Alice
Curry Minniear
July 28, 1929 – March 1, 2023
Evelyn Minniear passed away on March 1, 2023 in Hampton, VA. Evelyn was born in Dixon County NE in 1929 to Elsye L Kaspari Curry and Perry Forrest Curry. She was one of 6 children and grew up on a farm. After graduating high school in Ponca, NE she found her way to Denver where she worked as a keypunch operator. Evelyn met David H Minniear in 1953 in Denver where he was serving in the Air Force. They moved to Indiana for David to attend Purdue University after leaving the Air Force to get a degree in aeronautical engineering. Upon graduation their adventures began! Over the course of 67 years of marriage (David passed in May of 2021) and many assignment relocations through David's job, they made a home wherever they went.
Evelyn was a wonderful mother and friend to her two children Tom and Ann. Her creative side included nearly any kind of sewing from clothing to upholstery, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She worked in Hampton as a bookkeeper for Smith's Floragift and was active in her church, St. Mark's UMC. She volunteered for over 10 years with the HELP, Inc. organization and could be found in the kitchen cooking lunch, bagging food in the Food Pantry, and making breakfast for A Nights Welcome hosted at the church. Once she had sent her children off to college she decided to go herself and earned a degree in computer science from Thomas Nelson CC. Part of her free time was spent learning to tap dance which she enjoyed immensely along with line dancing. She had the gift of being a good listener, was open to new experiences and made a lot of good friends all through her life. Her spirit, kindness and presence will be greatly missed.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband David H. Minniear. She is survived by her children Thomas Minniear, and Ann Minniear and her two grandchildren Brian and Bre' Minniear.
Visitation will be Thursday March 23, 2023 from 5-7pm at St. Mark's United Methodist Church Family Life Center.
