IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eva Dale
Wood
January 28, 1941 – October 27, 2025
Eva Dale Wood, a native of Hampton, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Alzheimer's. All who knew Eva knew her love for the Lord and her family. She and her husband, Richard "Woody" Wood, met at Hampton High School and were married for 59 years. True Crabbers, they attended many Class of '58 reunions and gatherings with their classmates. They lived in Hampton where they raised their two girls and attended First United Methodist Church in Fox Hill. During her time in Hampton, she worked in different capacities for Hampton City Schools. In 1979, she moved with her family to Pascagoula, Mississippi where she and Woody became members of Arlington Heights Baptist Church. She continued her career and retired as an Instructional Assistant for Pascagoula Public Schools.
Eva was a loving wife, doting mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She kept busy with cross-stitching, crocheting, quilting and other crafts. She created countless memories while traveling with Kiwanis International, vacationing in Disney World, and enjoying the beaches of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She especially enjoyed making memories with her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter who lovingly called her "Weazer".
Eva is survived by her two daughters, Cathy Beasley of Newport News and Ann Barber (Kevin W.) of Hampton; two grandsons, Kevin R. Barber (Sarah) of Yorktown and Hunter Beasley of Phoenix, Arizona; and one great-granddaughter, Vani Barber of Yorktown. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Agie Dale; brother-in-law, Ralph Snell; brother-in-law, John Wood; and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Eva is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Wood, her parents, Herbert and Olive Dale, her brother, Herbert Dale, Jr., and sister, Nancy Snell.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at the Hidenwood Retirement Community and Heartland Hospice for their dedicated care and support.
A visitation and funeral service will be held to honor Eva's life and legacy at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on November 22, 2025. Visitation will be from 1 until 2, immediately followed by a service at 2.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Eva's memory; a fitting tribute to a life lived in service to others.
As we bid farewell to Eva, we find comfort in the knowledge that she is at peace, embraced by the love of a higher power, and reunited with those who have gone before her.
