IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Erna P.
Wilkerson
April 8, 1927 – January 11, 2021
Erna P. Wilkerson, 93, of Hampton, VA, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 11, 2021. She was born on April 8, 1927 in Vienna, Austria, a daughter of the late Leopold and Maria Vodicka.
She was a member of East Hampton Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Erna was talented in knitting, crocheting, sewing, and baking, including her Austrian Vanillekipferl cookies. She loved listening to Elvis Presley music, watching her favorite NASCAR driver, #48 Jimmie Johnson, and playing any sort of card game. In fact, she taught all of her children and grandchildren how to play rummy. Spending time with her loved ones brought her joy for many years.
Erna was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her son, Robert; her grandson, Bobby; her sister, Mela; and her brother, Peter. She is survived by her children, C.W. "Billy" Wilkerson (Debby), Peggy Keatts (Dwight), Rosemary Thurston (Ron), Rickey Wilkerson (Sheila), and Dan Wilkerson (Michele). She was a loving Grandma/Omi to Julie, Micah, Karen, Adam, Bobby, Brian, Liz, Laura, Mary, Dan Jr., Zachary, and Stephanie and Great-Grandma to twenty great-grandchildren.
She leaves her lifelong friend, Gitta, and many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her. A special thank you to Ann Cathey for her compassionate support and care of Erna.
The family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer McCord and her loving staff of Heartland Hospice and Bayside of Poquoson, especially Daja, Carrie, Noelle, Sydnie, Kirstie, and Pam, for their devoted care.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Keep the Promise Ministries, 4 Cheryl Circle, Poquoson, VA 23662 in support of Pastor Buddy Chapman, a loyal family friend who always provided spiritual comfort at just the right time.
To honor Erna in the days ahead, take time to enjoy nature and flowers, especially her favorite flower "Edelweiss." Thank you Mom, we love you!
Friends are encouraged to share memories and words of condolence with the family here.
