Erika Davis Saunders, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024, after a two year battle with cancer. Born in Germany, she moved to the U.S. in 1961, became a U.S. Citizen and had been a Hampton resident for 61 years.

Erika was an active member of Resurrection Lutheran Church for many years. She enjoyed sewing, baking, dancing, working in her yard, and spending time with her family. The past 18 months, she has been cared for by her daughter and son-in-law, Caroline and Mike Peacock.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Davis and second husband, Joe Saunders, she leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Caroline Peacock (Mike), Susan Wright (Royce), Chrissy Malcolm (David); son, Thomas Davis; step-sons, David Saunders (LeAnn), Mark Saunders (Michelle) and Matthew Saunders (Cheryl); grandchildren, Patrick Kelly, Jacob Kelly, Matt Lowery, Nikki Bruner (Ryan), Dylan Malcolm, Jake Malcolm, Taylor Malcolm, Bella Saunders, Michael Saunders, Katie Saunders, Ryan Saunders, Samantha Saunders, Christopher Saunders, Brianna Saunders, Jonathan Saunders, Caitlyn Saunders and Ciera Saunders along with seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 5:00-6:30 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Newport News at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 22,  2024, followed by a reception at the church. Burial will be private.
