Emily Schlichenmayer Doyle, 98, is with God, and resting in the arms of her beloved husband. Emily was born in Wishek, North Dakota to Katherine and Samuel Schlichenmayer, she was one of 11 children . She received a Business Degree from the North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, North Dakota, where she met her husband John Doyle. They were married January 24, 1942 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Fort Monroe. Emily taught first grade at St Mary Star of the Sea, and served as St Rose of Lima's secretary. In 1976 she obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Education at Christopher Newport College. In 1979 Emily completed the three year Ministry Formation program and served as Pastoral Minister with her husband John.
Some of her many accomplishments included raising six children, earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree, serving as I.C.C. Pastoral Minister and Mary Immaculate Hospital Minister and Auxiliary President, as well as and serving as Auxiliary President at the James River Nursing Home. She participated in the National Council of Catholic Women as Local and State President, and National Province Director. She and John were very active in their Church including starting up the Young at Hearts program for the elderly, which still operates today.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Amanda, Erna, and Edith, and brothers: Samuel, Herbert, Raymond, and Benjamin, her husband of 72 years, John Edward Doyle; son, Donald Lee Doyle; and daughter, Josephine Catherine McElroy.
Emily is survived by her sons; John A (Rosemarie), Samuel J (Rosalie), Louis Patrick (Sheryl); daughter, Emily L.; siblings, Ruth, Bertha, and Richard; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
Emily will be greatly missed by all of us and richly deserves her place in heaven.
A funeral mass will be held on October 29, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11 AM. Interment will follow at 3 PM in Peninsula Memorial Park.
