Elmer Lee Merideth, 90, died Saturday, November 14, 2015. Born in Kentucky he had been a Peninsula resident since 1947. Elmer retired from the Army as a staff sergeant after 22 years of service including WWII and the D Day invasion, service in the Korean War, and during the Vietnam era. Elmer was preceded in death in 2008 by his wife of 60 years, Jean Myrtis Merideth. He is survived by his children, Kenneth L. Merideth, Elmer G. Merideth, and Donnie Ann Holloway; his sister, Vera Avery; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Elmer and Jean will have their urns interred in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home
