Ellen Elizabeth Toomy Lancaster, a local resident in the Southall Landings community passed away after a long illness at her home with family present.  Ellen and her husband Michael Lancaster moved here from Annapolis MD and Centreville VA in November 2002.  Ellen went to work for Joe Spencer and Ace Loding's State Farm Insurance and Michael was a senior /consultant for several companies.  They both retired in January 2014.

Ellen was born in Brooklyn, New York on the 1st of January 1946, to parents Richard G. Toomy and Mary Annetta Braden Toomy.  She was raised in Brooklyn and attended High School in Boston and Rutherford, NJ.  She attended Katherine Gibbs School in NJ.  Ellen met Michael when he was a Cadet at West Point's US Military Academy. They were married after his graduation at West Point in June 1967.  Michael and Ellen were a family in the active Army until 1987, living in Europe and in the States in numerous locations including Graduate School at the University of Kentucky then the faculty at West Point. After Michael's retirement, they lived in Northern Virginia, both having numerous positions with different companies and customers.  They sold houses in Centreville, VA and Annapolis, MD, moving to Southall Landings in Hampton, Virginia in November 2002.

Ellen is survived by her husband Michael, daughter Katherine Michelle Lancaster, (married to Bill Quinn with children Wils, Jack, and Charlie Quinn) and son Richard Scott Lancaster, (married to Lenzi Gayle Dodgeon with son Connor) both of Lexington, KY, and another daughter Elizabeth Jean Lancaster (with children Jacob Scott and Ryan Katherine Walker) from Leesburg, VA.  Ellen is also survived by brother Richard Toomy Jr of Irvington, NY and sister Mary Frances Toomy Leenas of Ringwood, NJ.

Ellen will be inurned at Hampton Memorial Gardens in Hampton.  R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. There will be a memorial reception by the family at the Southall Landings Marina and Clubhouse from 12-4pm Friday, June 22, 2018.
