Elizabeth "Libbie" Colbert Wilson, 95, passed away on December 10, 2014. Born in Hampton, VA on January 3, 1919 to Mr. and Mrs. Taylor C. Wilson, she attended local schools and graduated in 1936 from Hampton High School. Graduating in 1940 from Madison College (as it was called then) with a degree in Elementary Education, she taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in Hampton public schools (Armstrong, John M. Willis and Booker) for 32 years and 2 years in Winter Park, FL. Teaching was her life. She loved and enjoyed her pupils and continued to be able to count quite a few of them as her present day friends. While teaching, she also coached and played girls and women's softball and became quite a lover of the game. A member of Central United Methodist Church, Hampton Yacht Club and James River Country Club, she especially loved flowers, her patio, dancing, music (especially the music of the big bands and Johann Strauss) and had an appreciation for many forms of music. Libbie is survived by three nephews, Chris Wilson and wife Brandy, Colby Wilson, and Craig Wilson; nieces, Christie White and husband Larry, Ann Limandri and husband Skip, Sally Mann, Elizabeth "Buff" Goldsby; great nephews, Thomas Linkous and wife Kelly, Taylor Wilson IV, Andrew Wilson, Zachary Goldsby, Devon Goldsby; sister-in-law, Mrs. Taylor C. "Peggy" Wilson. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 Thursday, December 18, 2014 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home A private interment will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the service from 12-1:30 PM. The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Central United Methodist Church, Hampton.
