IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth Jane
Wade
October 9, 1929 – November 3, 2022
Elizabeth Jane Bryant Wade (Stauter), 93, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2022. She was born on October 4, 1929 in Harrisburg, PA, to James and Margaret (Kennedy) Bryant. She grew up just down the river in Steelton, PA. Betty, as everyone knew her, graduated from Steelton High School in 1947 and married Duane Alva Stauter on October 17, 1949. She was a homemaker raising their three children as they moved around the country - Pennsylvania, Alexandria, Virginia, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, and finally to Manassas, VA. In 1968, with the passing of her husband Duane and all the children in school, she began her working career at Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) in Manassas, VA. There she advanced to Applications Supervisor, retiring in 1993 after 25 years of service. In 1996, Betty moved to Newport News, VA, to be near family. Betty was an active member in the Order of Eastern Star, Wimodausis Chapter 106 of Manassas. She maintained membership after leaving Manassas and received a lifetime membership of which she was especially proud. Everyone knowing Betty knew she loved her family, the Outer Banks, good seafood (especially picking steamed crabs) and a steady stream of great friends. She never a met stranger – she was most definitely a real "people person."
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Duane (1968), and two sisters, Marion Bryant Morgan and Ethel Bryant McKeown. Left to cherish her memory are children Diane (EL), Duane, and Delores (CK). Grandma Wade loved all of her grandchildren - Jason (Deana), Justin (Barbara), Heather (Andy), and Morgan (Mackenzie). She found joy in knowing and hearing all about her nine great-grandchildren - Garrison (Hannah), Gabriel, Emily, Moriah, Katelyn, Jessa, Reese, Julia, and Liam.
In a private ceremony, Betty will be buried at Culpeper National Cemetery alongside her husband, Duane.
Her children would like to thank the staff of James River Convalescent Center and the VHS Hospice Team for their support and the loving care provided to our mother for the past four years. We are grateful for the services of R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Donations in Betty's memory can be made to Edmarc, a family-centered home-health and hospice for children with life-threatening illnesses.
