Obituary

Elizabeth Chappell Morgan went home to the Lord on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. She was born February 9, 1929, in Candor, North Carolina, to James Terrell and Ruth Seward Chappell. Beth was the youngest of three children; her brothers Walton and Bill predeceased her. She was married for 60 years to Clyde Grayson Morgan. A woman of deep and abiding faith, there is no doubt she is now celebrating a joyful reunion with her family and devoted husband.

Prior to her marriage and moving to Virginia, Beth graduated from Flora MacDonald College (now St. Andrews University) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and taught school in North Carolina.

Together, Beth and Clyde made their home in Hampton, Virginia. They raised three children, Pamela Morgan Huskey (Lester†), Timothy G. Morgan (Ruth) and Terrell A. Morgan (Esperanza). She has five grandsons, whom she loved unconditionally, Charles Elmer (Lydia), Daniel Morgan (Tami), Stephen Huskey (Carina), Caleb Morgan (Egle), and Ruben Morgan (Brittany). Beth was the proud great-grandmother to Blair, William, Zachary and Lucas Morgan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

When her children were older, Beth returned to teaching and taught first grade at Jane H. Bryan Elementary School for 17 years. Upon retirement, Beth taught English as a Second Language classes.

Beth had a great love for her church family at Fox Hill Road Baptist Church, which she attended for many years. She was deeply committed to its education and outreach programs. She taught Sunday school, led Bible studies and was a long-time member of the Mission Workshop of the church. Both she and Clyde participated for 10 years in "Builders for Christ," a mission-based construction group, Clyde doing electrical work and Beth working in the kitchen.

Beth was an extraordinary seamstress, crafting hers and Pam's clothing. She also made Pam's wedding dress. For many years as a member of the Mission Workshop, she made various items for local nursing homes and garments for needy children. She was an active participant in the "Remember Me" program for the Sentara Hospice, where she made clothing for stuffed bears as memorials to loved ones.

Beginning in 2013, Beth made her home at The Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News, where she forged many new friendships and lived happily and independently for over 12 years. Subsequently, she was blessed to be looked after by the dedicated and generous staff in Assisted Living.

Beth Morgan will be deeply missed by her family, her church, her friends and all whose lives she so graciously touched. She was a true lady—a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor will be missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
