Obituary

Eleanore Lois McKinstry Andrews, daughter of the late Dr. Herbert S. and Sara W. McKinstry, died on March 30, 2016.  A native of Kennett Square PA, she had been a Peninsula resident since World War II. She graduated with a BA in mathematics from Wilson College, Chambersburg PA and moved to Hampton VA to work as a "computer" (mathematician) at NACA (predecessor of NASA).

She was an outdoor enthusiast, gardening both in Hampton and at the family cottage in Vermont.  A member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Hampton for over 50 years, she served as president of the "Women of the Church", as a Sunday School teacher, and on numerous committees.  Mrs. Andrews was a past president of the Peninsula Council of Garden Clubs. She was also a member of Chapter A, Virginia P.E.O. for more than 50 years and a past state president of Virginia State chapter.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Thomas B. Andrews, Jr., and her brother Herbert W. McKinstry. Survivors include 2 sons: Robert T. Andrews (& his wife Susan) of Bryn Athyn PA and Bruce S. Andrews (& his wife Janet) of Gaithersburg MD; a brother, Robert B. McKinstry of Kennett Square PA; 3 granddaughters: Carly Cole and husband James, Kristina Andrews, and Sydney Andrews; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 10, 2016 at 1st Presbyterian Church of Hampton with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Rosser-Higgins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Eleanore has requested that memorial donations be made to Wilson College.
