Eleanor Esther Moretti Jaquet, died peacefully August 6 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Health Center in Virginia Beach, VA, where she lived for the past four years. A 65-year resident of Hampton, VA, Eleanor was born September 24, 1924 in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Her parents Mary and Rocco Moretti emigrated from Italy as children and became U.S. citizens. Eleanor grew up in Waukesha living next door to her maternal grandparents, aunts and uncles and nearby cousins with whom she was very close. She and her family lived through the Great Depression and her teenage years were spent in the shadow of World War II with her older brother serving in the Pacific Theater. She attended public schools, graduated from Waukesha High School, and majored in English literature at Carroll College in Waukesha. Soon after the war ended, she left college to start a new life with her husband, Byron Maurice Jaquet. They were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waukesha on June 28, 1947. They immediately moved to Hampton, Virginia where Byron was newly employed at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, the forerunner of NASA, located at Langley Field, VA. Her beloved Byron died 21 years later in 1968, just before her 44th birthday. Eleanor was a lifelong and dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton, VA and was the first church secretary. She also belonged to many church and prayer groups there over the years, and actively supported church programs assisting refugee families resettling to Tidewater from Southeast Asia, and programs providing meals to the homeless. She also attended courses at Hampton University and enjoyed sewing, gardening and keeping in touch with her many friends and relatives. Eleanor is lovingly remembered by her children for her constant, unfailing and unconditional love throughout their lives. Eleanor is survived by seven great-grandchildren, five grandchildren, and three children and their spouses: Brent and Maryann (Redford) Jaquet of Edgewater, MD; Janice and Rob Miller of Virginia Beach; and Mary and Gary Gibson of Yorktown. Grandchildren: Kelly (Brauner) Jaquet and husband Neil Brauner of Boca Raton, FL; Jonathan Jaquet of Arnold, MD; Betsey (Jaquet) Kushner and husband Gabriel Kushner of Arnold, MD; Bryan Miller of Virginia Beach and Kate (Miller) Brady and husband Kyle Brady, of Richmond, VA. Great-grandchildren: Benjamin Etzold; Noah Dodson; Ryan Brauner; Macey Kushner, Averey Kushner; Alexa Brauner and Harper Kushner. Eleanor is survived by many cousins, relatives and friends and her brothers and sisters-in-law: John and Sharon Moretti of Brookfield, WI; and Luna Moretti of Sun City, AZ. Her brothers Alfred Moretti and Orest Moretti preceded her in death. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 17, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a reception to follow. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30. Inurnment will take place in Parklawn Memorial Park at 2:00 PM.
