Obituary

Edward "Eddie" H. Smith, 78, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014. A lifelong resident of Hampton, he retired as a Marine Chemist from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1994 after 30 years. He served our country in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and he was a member of the Monitor Masonic Lodge No. 197.

Eddie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie M. Smith; son, Ralph E. Smith and his wife Debbie of Scottsville, VA; daughter, Elizabeth S. Mainwaring and her husband Tom of Gloucester; sister, Charlotte Cagney of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Blair and Lance Smith, and Lee and Katie Mainwaring; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 AM Monday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:30 Monday in Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Virginia Oncology staff, especially Dr. Scott Kruger and his nurse Laurel Haughton; and the Oncology staff on the 5 th floor of Sentara Careplex for their care and kindness to Eddie during his illness. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, VA Chapter, 5540 Falmouth St., #101, Richmond, VA 23230.
