Douglas Scott Quinn, 67, passed awaySeptember 14, 2013in Hampton, VA. He was born at Buxton Hospital in Newport News. He resided on Grandview Island for the majority of his life. Graduating in 1964, he was a Hampton Crabber where he was a pole vaulter and a TKA brother. He served as a U.S. Marine in the Vietnam War from 1966-1967 where he received the Purple Heart. He graduated from the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding and became an employee for over 40 years before retiring in 2011. His passions were the Washington Redskins and the New York Yankees.
Survivors include his wife, Victoria; two sons, Charley Quinn (wife Johanna) of Midlothian, Virginia and Michael Quinn of Yorktown; a stepdaughter, Kristen O'Brien (husband Stan) of South Carolina; a brother, Ronald Quinn (wife Carrie) of Hampton; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Marion Quinn.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday September 18th at 2:00 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A reception at St. John's Church Parish Hall will follow the service.
Donations will be accepted to the Apprentice School 4101 Washington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607 in lieu of flowers.
