Dorothy Ann Lyons, 63, passed away peacefully in her Hampton home on Monday July 23, 2018.  Dot, as she was known, was born to Richard and Dorothy Anne Lyons July 25, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. Before moving to Newport News and settling as a homemaker, Dot briefly pursued a career with the Board of Education. She was a loving mother and grandmother with a big heart, a radiant smile, and endless wisdom. Never hindered by life's obstacles and always equipped with words of encouragement, Dot stayed ready to shine a light of determination and triumph on those around her. She harbored a love for drama, chocolatey confectionaries, festive holidays, and the color purple. Dorothy leaves behind her three daughters Stacey Smallwood, Julya Abdullah-Muhammad, and Serenity Abdullah-Muhammad, her four grandchildren, D'Keim, Autumn, Zane, and Marley, her beloved companion Seifullah Abdullah-Muhammad, as well as her four siblings, Gregory, Gertrude, Maurine, and Ursula. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones. A memorial service will be held for her Sunday August 5, 2018 at the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
