IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Johnson
October 25, 2013
Heaven received a new angel when Dorothy I. Johnson, 91, of Hampton passed away on October 25th. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert L. Johnson, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Edith Knight-Hunt, and son, Eddie Johnson, along with grandchildren Katherine Glass (Terry), Keith Knight (Souad), and Chris Johnson (Nancy). Dottie also leaves behind the lights of her life, her great grandchildren: Kayleigh Glass, Noelle Johnson, and Farris and Sammy Knight.
Born in Norton, Virginia, Dottie spent most of her adult life in Hampton. While her early adult years were spent raising her family, she was also a hostess at Eli's and, later, a much-loved school bus driver. Dottie was an active member of Newport News Moose Lodge 213 for 50 years and was also a volunteer with Hampton's senior citizens' recreation program. She was an accomplished seamstress and always generously shared her time, her talents and her love.
The family wishes to thank Dottie's extended family for their support during her illness and for many years of cherished friendship: Penny, Jean and Joe, John and Rosellen, and Mickey and Nan who know that Friday nights will never be quite the same.
A memorial service will take place in the Chapel of R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Sunday, October 27th at and the family will receive friends following. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Legacy Home for Hospice and Support, 2 Fenwick Road, Apt. 510, Ft. Monroe, VA 23651 so they may continue their mission of assisting families in caring for their loved ones.
