Dorothy Jean Johnson, 74, died peacefully Saturday, January 25, 2014 surrounded by her family. A native of Grafton, WV, she had been a Hampton resident since 1969. A member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, she had a strong Christian faith. She worked for the City of Hampton in the Finance Department for many years and then went to work for Herr's Potato Chips as an Office Manager, retiring in 2004 after 6 years of service.

An avid gardener, she loved working in her yard and in her earlier years enjoyed bowling, sewing and reading. Her greatest love was for her family and especially her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Eddie W. Johnson; survivors include her son, Thomas W. Johnson and his wife, Terri; her daughter, Diana J. Smith and her husband, Marc; her grandchildren, Tracy Johnson, and Michael and Brian Harrell; a step-grandson, Brett Smith; her sister, Peggy Amico and her husband, Joseph; and many other loving family members and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church by Rev. Roy White. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 Tuesday at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.
