Woolard) Walczak
December 17, 1928 – March 19, 2021
Doris Walczak (Woolard, Franklin) died on Friday, March 19, 2021 at her home in Hampton after a five-year battle with Alzheimer's and recovering from spinal surgery.
Doris was born on December 17, 1928 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Edward James Franklin, Sr. and Dove Scott Franklin. A longtime resident of Hampton, she graduated from Hampton High School; was a member of West Hampton Baptist Church and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She retired as a secretary for the Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe in 1988 after 27 years of civil service.
Doris was preceded in death by her son, Stephen R. Woolard: brother, Edward James Franklin, Jr.: and sisters, Juanita Armstrong Brower and Hilah Franklin Terrell. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard Walczak of Hampton; her children Wayne Woolard (Carol) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Randy Woolard of Williamsburg; sister Karen Snead Napier (Roger) of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; brother, Ronnie Franklin (Joyce Asbury) of Newport News; and step-children, Frances Bethea of Norfolk and Lisa Ripley of Richmond; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 PM Tuesday, March 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton followed by a Liturgy of the Word beginning at 2:30 PM. Due to Covid 19, please call the church at 826-0393 to register to attend the service due to capacity restrictions. Mask and social distancing protocols will be in effect. Live streaming of the Liturgy of the Word service will be available on Youtube. The link will not work until the live stream begins on Tuesday. Follow this link on Tuesday to connect to the service. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 on Thursday, April 1 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
