Doris Walczak (Woolard, Franklin) died on Friday, March 19, 2021 at her home in Hampton after a five-year battle with Alzheimer's and recovering from spinal surgery.

Doris was born on December 17, 1928 in Augusta, Georgia to the late Edward James Franklin, Sr. and Dove Scott Franklin.  A longtime resident of Hampton, she graduated from Hampton High School; was a member of West Hampton Baptist Church and attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  She retired as a secretary for the Training and Doctrine Command at Fort Monroe in 1988 after 27 years of civil service.

Doris was preceded in death by her son, Stephen R. Woolard: brother, Edward James Franklin, Jr.: and sisters, Juanita Armstrong Brower and Hilah Franklin Terrell.  She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard Walczak of Hampton; her children Wayne Woolard (Carol) of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Randy Woolard of Williamsburg; sister Karen Snead Napier (Roger) of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; brother, Ronnie Franklin (Joyce Asbury) of Newport News; and step-children, Frances Bethea of Norfolk and Lisa Ripley of Richmond; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:30 PM Tuesday, March 30 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton followed by a Liturgy of the Word beginning at 2:30 PM. Due to Covid 19, please call the church at 826-0393 to register to attend the service due to capacity restrictions. Mask and social distancing protocols will be in effect. Inurnment will take place at 2:00 on Thursday, April 1 at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk, VA.
