Doris Piland Williams, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016. She was born at Portsmouth Naval Hospital and was a lifelong resident of Hampton.
Doris graduated in 1951 from Hampton High School and then from Christopher Newport College in 1984 with a BA in Music. She loved playing the organ and piano. She was a private piano teacher for many years and a member of the Peninsula Music Teachers Association.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Hatcher and Sterling Piland; husband of 55 years, William Lee Williams. She is survived by her son, Brian Lee Williams; daughter, Susan Williams Lewis and her husband Neil; grandchildren, Kyle Lewis and Jacob Lewis; and sister, Shirley Flowers (husband, Ed) and brother, H. W. "Billy" Piland, Jr. (wife, Sandra).
The family will receive friends from 3-4:30 PM Sunday, March 20, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 AM, Monday, March 21, 2016 at Hampton Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Pugh Mills. A reception will follow at the church.
