Doris Claire Byrne passed away on October 12, 2022, at the age of 94.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John "Jack" Byrne, sons, Matthew Byrne (Marta) and Paul Byrne.  She is survived by her sons, John Byrne (Stephanie), Andrew Byrne, and James Byrne (Janet).  She is also survived by six grandchildren: Meredith Byrne, Allison Byrne, Michael Byrne, Michelle Byrne, John Byrne, and Louise Byrne.  Doris was born and raised in Queens, New York City.  She attended Queens College in New York City and majored in chemistry.  In 1951, she married Jack and as an Air Force wife traveled the world.  Doris was an accomplished piano player and played for local senior citizen homes in her later years.  She resided at The Chamberlain in Hampton for many years but recently moved to Marian Manor in Virginia Beach.  Doris was a lifelong learner.  Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a long-time member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hampton.  The family will receive friends at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 South Armistead Avenue, Hampton on Monday, October 17 from 6-7:30PM.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave, Hampton on Tuesday October 18th at noon.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Maryknoll Sisters.
