Donald K. Call died Wednesday, March 18, 2014. Born May 24, 1920 in Swordes Creek, VA, Don was one of six boys. He moved to the Peninsula in 1938 to do sheet metal training at Fort Eustis and then worked for Newport News Shipyard before joining the Navy where he served during WWII. Don worked at NASA from 1946-1973 on projects for Apollo and Gemini space missions and had Call Brothers Construction Co from 1948-1975.

Don married Christine C. Thorn April 1943. He was preceded in death by Christine and his son, Bruce Call. He is survived by his children, Ken (Donna) Call, Randy (Diana) Call, Jeff (Nadine) Call, and Andy (Maria) Call; grandchildren, Bruce, Christine, Tibor, Cody, Rhyden, Ashton, Kegan, Jeffery, Tony, Vickie, Peter, Christina; and great-grandchildren, Naomi, Nicky, Blake, Cabot and Hayden.

The family would like to extend special thanks, to son, Jeff who was his caretaker for 6 years with special help from Nadine and Vickie; and Sunrise Home for their dedicated care and professionalism.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton.
