Dennis Berlin Barbour, 87, born in Pittsylvania Va, left this earth on Saturday, October 12, 2024 to join his wife of 57 years, Peggy Ann Barbour (died 2010) and brother Leo Barbour (died 2020).

Dennis joined the Army Reserves at a young age and later completed trade school to become a master electrician. He was a member of IBEW for 60 years. Dennis spent his whole life working his job during the week and building the house on Lake Gaston on weekends and holidays. He and his wife relocated to the lake upon retirement, and he remained at the lake after her passing. He began to have health issues in 2019, so he and his loyal German shepherd, Annie, moved back to Hampton to live with his youngest daughter, making it easier for her to help navigate his doctor appointments. He adjusted and became acquainted with his new neighbors. Losing his sight challenged his independence through his later years, but he remained fiercely independent up until his passing.

He leaves behind: His brother Ryland "Bobby" Barbour and his wife Barbara. His daughters Robin Morgan, Shannon Huff and her husband Alan, and Zandy Amor. His grandchildren Nathaniel Miller, Ashley Miller and husband Shaun Hanson, David Jacobsen, Hanna Blas, Savannah Amor and husband Jon Kappeler, Drew Amor and wife Caitlyn, and Jordan Amor. His great grandchildren Garrett and Lincoln Blas, and Kennedy and Wyatt Kappeler. His nieces Venus Toler and husband Gary, Linda Gunter and husband Wayne, Vickie Barbour, Joan Kutchen, Joyce Skinner and husband Nick, and nephew Jon Barbour. His companion and friend Janet Moore. His family and friends will deeply mourn his loss.

The family would also like to thank all of the nurses, doctors, caregivers and staff at Sentara hospital who took such kind care of him and assisted us with getting him home on hospice so that he could pass in the comfort of his own home surrounded by love. The family requests donations be made in his memory to Sentara Hospice.

For those who wish to pay respects and celebrate his life, family will receive friends on Sunday, October 20, 2024 from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
