David L. West, 76, died Saturday, July 7, 2018. Born in Gloucester, he was a longtime Hampton resident. His knowledge and expertise in plumbing and HVAC was shared as a teacher at VoTech. He retired as a Building Inspector from the City of Hampton in 1993. During his time with the city, he wrote many of the current plumbing codes.

A Master Gardener and dog lover, David loved to volunteer his time and would always be willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat. He was a wonderful father and friend to all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia E. West, a son, Michael R. West and two sisters; survivors include his son, David Brian West; a step-daughter, Elizabeth June Waller; grandson, Jonathan M. Waller and two other grandchildren; his siblings, Thomas West, Jr., William West, Sr. and his wife, Ethna, and Charlotte Flickner; and many nieces and nephews who cherished and adored him along with his beloved dog, Dixie Lee.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 12, 2018 in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by Pastor Richard G. Barnes. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
