David Kelly Spruill, 59, died unexpectedly at his home in Newport News, on June 3, 2015. He was a private person who quietly helped others, offering encouragement and support. He enjoyed cooking and often shared his favorite dishes with others. He was a member of the Bethel High School Class of 1974. He worked as a maintenance technician for the Hampton School Board from 1974 to 1977. He went on to the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School and graduated in 1982 as an electrical specialist and continued working there until 1985 when he went to work for Waco, Inc. as an electrical technician for the next year. In 1986, he worked for Unidyne, Inc. as a communication installation specialist and as a tech aide for Atlantic Technical Services in 1987. At the time of his death, he was employed as a Senior Field Service Technician by Automation Controls, Inc. where he had been a valued employee for the past 28 years. David had an innate gift for designing electronics and repairing all things mechanical. Anyone who knew him said he was the smartest person they knew. He was a good man who will be missed. David is survived by his mother; Susana Spruill of Hampton, sister, Nancy of Newport News, brothers, William and wife Sharon of Absecon, NJ, Mark and his wife Tina of Hampton, and Steve and his wife Teresa of Hampton, two nephews, two nieces, and three great nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 2PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S.
