Obituary

David C. Lively, 73, died Tuesday, December 17, 2019.  A native and lifelong resident of Hampton, David graduated from Hampton High School and attended Christopher Newport College.  He also spent four years in the Navy.

David was a member of Hampton Yacht Club and was an avid sailor.  He loved racing his boat, Lively Lady. David always welcomed anyone on the boat and he loved teaching others to sail.  He helped start the sailing program at Christopher Newport in the early '70's and also taught in the Jr. Sailing Program at Hampton Yacht Club.

Everyone who knew David loved him.  He had a twinkle in his eye and could make anyone feel important.  As a member of First Presbyterian Church, his faith has grown over the last few years.  He enjoyed doing local mission work helping to fix homes for those less able.

David will be remembered by anyone who has ever sailed on the Lively Lady, especially his all female crew from the '80's, his bourbon buddies, and the love of his life, his wife.  Granddaughter Reagan will miss all the fun times she had playing with her "Pop".

Preceded in death by his daughter, Dale Lively Challoner; David is survived by his wife, Janice W. Lively; son, Craig Lively; sister, Lynn L. Schultz and husband Larry; brother Dan Lively and wife Brenda; and grandchildren Reagan Maners and Will Lively.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, December 22, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, Hampton.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to First Presbyterian Church or the Jr. Sailing Program at Hampton Yacht Club.
