Dannie Lee Schrum Sr., 71, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, November 17, 2013. A lifelong resident of the Peninsula, Dannie was a 1961 graduate of Hampton High School. He spent his entire career helping build the family business, Craft Machine Works, as well as Crane Research and Craft Bearing. He enjoyed the water and reading books about the Chesapeake Bay. In recent years he spent his free time cruising and exploring the bay on his boat. Dannie cherished the time he spent with his family, especially the grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Jake Z. Schrum. Dannie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanette Schrum; children, Dannie Schrum Jr. and wife Tracy, and Stephanie S. Moss and husband David; grandchildren, Alexandra Schrum, Brent Greene, Parker Schrum, Skylar Moss and Natalie Moss; his mother, Ruby Edwards Schrum; brothers, Wayne Schrum and wife Patricia, David Schrum and wife Donna, Michael Schrum and wife Susan; mother-in-law, Norine Verlander; and sisters-in-law, Sandra Ballard and Brenda Strickland; many nieces and nephews and a large extended family.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home 245 S. Armistead Ave, Hampton followed by a funeral service to begin at 7:00 PM.
