IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel M.
Meadows
March 10, 2025
Please see obituary below for Daniel Meadows:
Daniel M. Meadows, 73, of Hampton, Virginia, wrapped up his nine-year showdown with heart disease and cancer on March 10, 2025, surrounded by the people he loved most—his family. If there's one thing we know for sure, it's that Daniel never backed down from a fight, whether it was against illness, a home improvement project, or anyone daring enough to challenge his legendary storytelling.
Born on February 19, 1952, in Athens, Alabama, to Herbert and Elizabeth Meadows, Daniel grew up with a knack for mischief, a heart big enough to fit his entire family, and a gift for spinning tales so wild, we're still not sure which ones were true.
Daniel is survived by his loving wife and partner-in-crime, Shirley Meadows, and his children, Keith Meadows (Pamela) Angela Fryer (Steve)and Eric Meadows, who will forever cherish his wit, wisdom, and well-timed dad jokes. His grandkids—Reghan Meadows, Chase Meadows, Caleb Meadows, Isabella Meadows, Avery Meadows, Colton Fryer, Trace Young, and Nicholas Harrell—knew him best as "Papa," the man who built them the world's greatest tire swing (and possibly the world's tallest fish tales). He also leaves behind his siblings, Debbie Meadows, Dixie Goodwin, and Dennis Meadows, who grew up alongside him in a house full of laughter, life lessons, and, undoubtedly, a few pranks.
Daniel spent his career with Alcoa Corporation, but his true legacy lies in the relationships he built. He was the kind of man who showed up—whether it was to lend a hand, share a story, or simply be present when it mattered most. His humor and warmth left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
Daniel was loved fiercely and will be remembered forever—for his beautiful laugh and the way he made everyone around him feel like they were part of something special. A family service will be held in his hometown in Alabama at a date to be determined. In the meantime, we will continue to remember his stories and share with others (embellishment encouraged), and make others laugh as he did with every family member, friend and stranger that would listen.
Rest in peace, Daniel. Your stories live on, and so does your love.
