Obituary

Connie Galloway passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 11, 2018 at the age of 88.

Born Naoma Jean Constance Dales, Connie was raised in Laurens and Oneonta, New York, the daughter of Miles C. and Mary George Dales. She graduated from Oneonta High School and attended Western Reserve University and Hartwick College, where she insisted pinochle and bridge were her best subjects.

Connie liked to say that, although she was born up North, she got to the South as soon as she could. She met and married her husband of 64 years, Ltc. (Ret) William W. Galloway, Jr. in North Carolina and became an Army wife, travelling with Bill for over 20 years before settling in Hampton in 1975.

Connie was an accomplished quilter, decorator and artist. One Christmas her ornaments graced not only the Abby Aldridge Rockefeller Christmas tree, but the White House tree as well. She displayed her thank you letter from the president for many years. Her beautiful creations still appear in a Colonial Williamsburg Christmas decorating book.

An avid student of history, Connie loved antiques, and owned the Strawberry Patch Antiques with Bill for over twenty years following their retirement. Connie met many of her best friends while pursing this passion.

Connie was always a gifted gardener, and her wild English garden provided many hours of pleasure for her and all her guests. She and Bill gardened together at each home they shared.

Mourning her passing are her husband, her loving daughter Carol Llewellyn (Don), beloved nieces and nephews Carol Powell, Judy Anciewicz, Christy Rathgaber, David Powell,  Buddy Pirone and a host of friends. Daughter Kathryn Anne (Doyle) sadly predeceased Connie in 2014. Connie will reunite with her beloved sisters Janet and Madsy, and brother Roger in heaven.

A service to celebrate Connie's spirit will be held at Hampton Baptist Church, 40 Kings Way, Hampton at 2 PM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Chicamicomico Life-Saving Station Historic Site, P. O. Box 5, Rodanthe, NC 27968, a museum that captured Connie's imagination, and to which she contributed in many ways for many years.

Finally, many special thanks are owed to Dawn, Jenna and Bri, some of Mom's very best friends from Warwick Forest.
