Clyde Ray Woolard, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2014 in Newport News, Virginia. Clyde is survived by his sons, Wayne and wife Carol Woolard of New Mexico; Steve Woolard of Tennessee; and Randy and wife Sharon Woolard of South Carolina. Clyde is also survived by six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Clyde is preceded in death by his grandson Travis D. Woolard. Clyde was born on March 25, 1925 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina to parents Willie and Ethel Woolard. On January 12, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was assigned to NAS Dutch Harbor in the 85th Naval Construction Battalion. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1946. Clyde was the owner of Dial Electronics Sales and Service in Hampton and later was employed as a technician for the Hampton VA Medical Center until his retirement. A memorial service will be conducted at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 10 at 6 pm. Memorial donations may be made to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
