Clyde Eldridge (C.E.) Johnson, Jr., born on March 17, 1938, in Lynchburg, VA, died on Monday, December 4, 2023, after a brief illness. His family moved to Hampton, VA when he was a child and he lived there the rest of his life. He joined the Air Force and served for 4 years. After his Air Force service, he went to work at Peninsula Electric Co. and wired many new homes on the Peninsula during the 1960's and 1970's. He then went to work for Manley Service Co. where he did HVAC, refrigeration, and electrical work. He also was self-employed as an electrical contractor. He was a faithful member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church. Not only did he serve as a deacon but he also was the custodian for a few years and was a great handyman at the church. Riding his Harley Davidson was his favorite thing to do. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and participated in many rides and events. He also had his ham radio license and was proficient with morse code and volunteered his time. C.E. was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Pratt Johnson, his parents, Clyde Eldridge Johnson, Sr. and Frances Elizabeth Mayberry Johnson, and his sister, Jean C. Gunter. Survivors include his sons, Clyde E. "Johnny" Johnson, III, Ronald Ray "Ronnie" Johnson (April), David Wayne Johnson, and Kenneth William "Kenny" Johnson. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Lady. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Memorial Baptist Church, 324 Newport News Avenue. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the sanctuary fund of Memorial Baptist Church, 317 Lee Street, Hampton, VA 23669 (this is the mailing address)
