Obituary

Clyde "Ari" Adams, beloved husband of Bonnie Summerlin-Adams, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 21st after years of fighting debilitating illness.

Born in Houston, Texas, and growing up in Port Neches and Austin, Ari was a proud Texan for his entire life.  He left Texas to play music professionally throughout the Gulf Coast area, playing for years at the Pier Lounge in Pensacola, Florida.  He returned to playing music again in the Hampton Roads area later in life and had many local musicians as friends.

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Ari was the youngest Master Mason to sit in the East and had special permission to read both the questions and responses for the degree.  However, upon becoming Catholic he no longer continued with Masonic work.

A devout Orthodox Christian and member of Dormition of the Theotokos Orthodox Church of Norfolk, Ari never lost an opportunity to talk about his beloved Jesus to anyone, either online or face to face, although illness had prevented him from attending for a number of years.

Formerly a third-order Franciscan, Ari's true calling was to spread the name of Jesus whenever possible.  As a photojournalist he was published in national magazines and Los Angeles area publications, but he was most proud of his photographic work with "Gospel for Asia," covering their work throughout India's cities and villages.

Ari was a prolific writer and beautiful poet.  Having written articles for many magazines while a pastor in his younger years, most of his current article writing appears on his FaceBook page.

Ari is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 34 years, Bonnie; his daughter Erika Adams of Las Vegas, his son Noah Adams and wife Erin of Ohio; and former daughter-in-law Kimberly Shaw Adams and grandchildren Samantha Adams, Riley Adams and Isabella Adams of Newark, Ohio. He is also survived by his older brother Travis Adams, younger brother Donny Adams, older sister Faye Overton and husband Tommy, their daughters Angel Overton Harrah and family, Honey Overton Harms and family and Leah Overton Bridgeford and family.

He also leaves behind his beloved mother-in-law, Joanne Summerlin, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Gene and Terri Summerlin, and their children:  Micah Summerlin, Caitlin Summerlin, Trey and Samantha Summerlin and Megan Summerlin Luchtel and Landon Luchtel and their children, as well as the rest of the Summerlin family.

Trisagion Memorial followed by reading of Psalms will begin at 5 pm Wednesday, December 26 at Dormition Orthodox Church in Norfolk.  Orthodox Funeral Service will be held at Dormition on Thursday, December 27 at 9am with interment immediately following at Cape Charles Cemetery.
