Obituary

Clayton Carl Denney, Jr., 49, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Hampton. He was a graduate of the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School and he had worked for the last 17 years at Colonna's Shipyard. Married 31 years, Carl was a devoted husband and loving father to his two daughters and awesome Big Papa to his grandchildren. Carl's heart was for the Lord, for missions, and helping others. He put his heart and soul into making spoon rings so that the proceeds from the sales could be used to give book bags and school supplies to children, give thanksgiving meals to families in need, and to send others on mission trips. Carl loved working at Colonna's Shipyard, he loved all of his work family, and he always gave 110 percent into any project he was assigned. Survivors include his wife, Pam Denney; his daughters, Holly Denney Barton and her husband Reed and Amanda Denney Cox and her husband David; his parents, Clayton and Barbara Denney; his grandmother, Frances Mayberry; five grandchildren, Mia, Clay, Ashton, Peyton and Noah; his sister, Cindy Welch and her husband John; and nieces and nephews, Justin, Summer, John, Taylor, Zack, Bryson, and Braydon. A celebration of Carl's life will take place at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 5, 2014 at World Outreach Worship Center, 1233 Shields Road, Newport News. The family will receive friends immediately prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to The Breakthrough Center, at 103 Kelsor Drive, Poquoson, VA 23662.
