Obituary

Clarence (Mac) Ray McCormick, 80, of Yorktown, Virginia passed away peacefully after a long illness on November 14, 2013. He was born on December 9, 1932 in East Saint Louis, Illinois and was a Virginia resident since 1964. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Mary (Mickey) Catherine McCormick; a daughter, Sharon K. Naramore and husband William of Newport News; two sons, Terence P. and wife Lisa of New Market, and Michael T. and wife Renae of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a sister, Margie Renollet and husband Fred of Fairview Heights, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Kathy Avila and husband Ralph of Pembroke Pines, Florida; and grandchildren, Patrick McCormick and wife Chris, Jason Naramore and wife Becky, Justin Naramore and Kristin McCormick.

Mr. McCormick served his country with great pride and distinction before retiring as a member of the United States Air Force. He was awarded both the Meritorious Service Medal and multiple Air Force Commendation medals while serving in a variety of locations to include Korea, Japan, Spain, Thailand and several stateside bases from 1952 to 1972. Mr. McCormick continued his government service for the next 20 years with the United States Postal Service.

Mr. McCormick was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hampton and served as a Sunday school class treasurer and on the church property committee. The church's fellowship always received his highest praise and gratitude.

Mr. McCormick was an avid lifelong fan of his hometown St. Louis Cardinals and equally passionate in his support for Detroit Tiger's catcher Alex Avila.

Visitation will be on Sunday November 17, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at R. Hayden Smith Family Funeral Homes on Armistead Ave. in Hampton. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Hampton on Monday November 18, 2013 at 1pm. Mr. McCormick will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.

The family expresses its sincere gratitude to Hospice for their immeasurable care and comfort and asks that all expressions of sympathy be sent to The Legacy Home for Hospice and Support at the Chamberlin Hotel, 2 Fenwick Road Fort Monroe, Hampton, Virginia.
